What are the Different Types of Headlights?

While older vehicles used sealed beam incandescent lights, you won't find these on modern vehicles. Instead, there are three main types of headlights. The first is halogen. These are standard across many automakers, as they are some of the least expensive headlights to produce. However, they're also not as good for visibility as some of the others. HID or high-intensity discharge lights (also called xenon lights) provide brighter light for improved visibility. However, these take time to warm up. LED lights are the gold standard for automotive headlights. They're more expensive than halogen lights, but they're also brighter and will last much longer. What's more, they're incredibly energy efficient.

Can I Install My Own Headlight or Tail Light?

It depends on the type of light. If your VW is equipped with a halogen headlight, you may be able to replace the bulb by yourself. However, we still recommend having it done by experts. That's because halogen bulbs are very sensitive. If you get any oil from your fingers on the bulb, it may heat up unevenly, causing it to burn out again in short order. Not only will you need to wear gloves, but you'll make sure that your hands didn't touch the exterior of those gloves! It's much simpler to let someone else handle it.
