You'll Know You Have Defective Brake Fluid When...

The brake system relies on hydraulic brake fluid to transfer stopping power from the master cylinder into the brake calipers every time that you press the brake pedal. When you depress the brake pedal, it activates the master cylinder that generates stopping power that is sent through the brake fluid and into the brake calipers that clamp the brake pads and rotors together to create resistance.

The resistance between the brake calipers and rotors is the force that stops the vehicle. Although brake fluid is an excellent hydraulic, it readily absorbs moisture when exposed that causes it to lose integrity as a hydraulic fluid. Here are the warning signs of defective brake fluid:

• Brake system warning light is on
• Brakes making noises
